For a special Christmas experience you must go to the English town of York. Christmas is celebrated really big over here. Many Englishmen go annually to York to experience the true spirit of Christmas. The historic town is one of the most beautiful cities in England and therefore the perfect location for a proper breakdown traveling during Christmas.
In November York is transformed into a true Christmas town. The streets are decorated with twinkling lights and decorated Christmas trees and the stores are completely designed in the Christmas spirit. Of course there is also a Christmas market that feels like a fairy tale. These can be found around Parliament Street, St Sampsons Square and Coppergate. The stalls are beautifully decorated and filled with little lights. Of course you can buy your Christmas presents here or eat Christmas treats. Around the medieval hall of York local artists show their products and there is a special craft market.
Besides the Christmas market there is much more to see in the beautiful York. It is a beautiful old town with narrow streets, cobblestones and several old half-timbered houses. Another attraction is the York Minster, an impressive cathedral on the edge of the centre of York. If you go in the evening the York Minster is beautifully illuminated.
